The History of Albia

Once, a long time ago in a land called Albia, there lived a very intelligent race, the Shee. They lived under the earth and had big machines, which they used to create food, seeds, fish, and even other creatures. They created Norns for example. Norns are playful creatures that are curious and love to explore. That is why they were created. The Norns were not intelligent. And didn’t know compassion. The Shee also created Ettins, to work for them. The Ettins were constructors and builders, but they have lost their instincts. Life was good, summers were warm and winters were mild, and everybody was happy. But then a volcanic eruption changed this fact. Normally eruptions were common in Albia, but this one was huge. Lots of dust was created. Now Albia turned sad. There were harsh winters and hot summers. Dust was everywhere. The Shee didn’t know what to do, so they created the Grendels, strong creatures with thick skin. But these creatures grew too strong and turned to monsters. That left the Shee no other choice but to look the Grendels into the volcano. Later the Shee came up with the idea to create another race of Norns, for Norns were harmless and lovable. So the Mernorns were created. These creatures get born on land and breed on land. Than they move into water and grow a fishtail. They are able to supply food from underwater now. These are not the only creatures the Shee created. The Shee also created many other creatures, like the Scorpio Norns, or the Canny Norns in their experiments. I think that the Scorpio Experiment is pretty cool. What happened is that the Shee created a whole New World called Hades for them. Hades consisted only of desert land. They tried to create Norns that would survive the heat of the desert. They created the Scorpio Norns but abandoned them. Somehow a pair of Scorpio Norns got in the shuttle back to Albia. The Shee didn't destroy them because they found out that the Scorpio Norns actually had a bigger intelligence than they thought. But the dusty condition in Albia was still too bad. The Shee packed almost all their Ettins and other creatures. They abandoned some Norns and for some unexplainable reason set the Grendels free. After the Shee had left Albia the condition started to better itself and the Norn race continued to grow. This was the beginning of prehistoric Albia, because Norns were dumb, as I mentioned. Norns spoke prehistoric Albian, a small language that consists of only a few verbs, Nouns and adjectives. They thought that the story about Grendels and Ettins was a tale, since none of them had seen one. They were always separated. One Norn found an egg, an egg she has never seen before. She showed it to the other Norns. They didn't know what it was either. So the egg was left alone. Another big Eruption wiped Grendels and Norns out and filled the lower floors of the Shee's laboratories with earth, but the rest was uncovered. After a long time, a new species appeared, the handish. The handish resurrected Norns, and sadly, Grendels. The handish taught the Norns a lot, yet the handish disliked the Grendels. Finally, the Norns recovered to the stance they were before the eruption. This was the start of the evolution into modern Albia. Slowly, but surely they learned a more advanced language. Sadly, Norns discovered the Grendels and Ettins, which were now dumber than the Norns. One Norn discovered an egg. He didn't know what creature it belonged to. He picked it up and dropped it in the kitchen - into the incubator. The egg hatched: The birth of the last Shee. His name is Sidhe. The Norns taught the Shee everything they knew. So did the hand. So the Norns adopted the Shee. But the Grendels keep spreading diseases and killing Norns, and there is nothing they can do about it. Yet, the Norns keep advancing to a better race. And, who knows? Maybe someday the creatures will learn how to use the Shee's machines and discover the other laboratories. Maybe they will learn how to create their own creatures and be able to run Albia without the handish?
